VINTAGE HARDWARE DISPATCH #8

June23

WELCOME A NEW KID ON THE BLOCK … REDEMPTION LLC in Clatskanie, Oregon. A dear friend of Vintage Hardware, Kristi Nicholson, recently opened a gem of a store in the historic town (1891) of Clatskanie, Oregon (Hwy 30).  This town of less than 2,000 which has a strong Scandinavian heritage can now  boast about this petite jewelry box of a store filled with found, repurposed pieces – accentuated by romance and sparkle (just like the owner).

Only thirty-five miles east of Vintage Hardware, it will be difficult to leave Redemption empty handed (it was for us).  Congratulations, Kristi!!!

STORE HOURS:

Friday, Saturday & Monday (10am-5pm) …  Sunday (12pm-4pm)

NOW OFFERING … GORGEOUS RECLAIMED WOOD PRODUCTS!!  Vintage Hardware in cooperation with The Old Mill Reclamation Company are pleased to feature materials that have been painstakingly salvaged for use in restoring your home or incorporating in new construction.

Visit VH to see samples of current available materials that have been salvaged from an 1890′s farmhouse that had a 1920′s addition. We currently have quantities of 3 premium old growth, rough sawn Douglas Fir products.

1. 1x 5in face shiplap

2. 1x 7in face shiplap

3. rough sawn 1×12

The 5in and 7in shiplap make gorgeous trim, base board, paneling, wainscoting, and yield stunning results when installed as flooring.   Pricing is $2.15 per sq. ft. for all materials…

These wood products have been de-nailed and are being sold as rough sawn materials. Small brads used to hand early wall fabric remain on the smooth faced backside of the shiplap product.  This is a nonissue when installing as a rough sawn product.

We aim to please …

April26

We’re tickled to share some recent e-mails we have received:

“Thanks for the help on Saturday finding the right door for the McMinnville museum blacksmith shop, it will repair just fine and look great once installed. The hinges are just what the doctor ordered! More than happy to spend my money with you and hope to do more business with you in the future.  Thanks!”
Steve Gossett

In reference to an old trunk purchased from Vintage Hardware …

“It is definitely Norwegian, 1803, dovetailed, double bevel, with wood pegs, based on the front pattern I should be able to tell what valley it came from.  What great finds.  Will see you again when we are in the area.  We are restoring a 1914 Craftsman style house in Carnation,  Washington, so need to get lots of replacement old stuff.  Like you have.”
Thanks,
Kris and Dick

“Love your website will definitely come in the next time I am in the area. Was a pleasure meeting you. I already see things
that I can use in my home staging. You are now in my favorites.”
Blessings… Terry

2nd Saturday Art/Beer Walk Tonight

April23

Marie Smith painstakingly creates furniture from reclaimed wood as well as branches and bushes that are rescued from the burn pile.  Even the nails, screws and hardware are recycled whenever possible (we know as she is regularly digging through the bins at VH).  Most impressive is the fact that no power tools of any kind are used in the assembly of each piece.  A true artisan.  Ms. Smith is the featured artist at Vintage Hardware tonight.

NO POWER TOOLS USED!

Also, Ft George Brewery & Public House is sponsoring a beer walk at participating venues.  TODAY … Regatta festivites, Art/Beer Walk this evening!!

  WHOSE CHILD IS THIS?
Author Unknown

“Whose child is this?” I asked one day
Seeing a little one out at play
“Mine”, said the parent with a tender smile
“Mine to keep a little while
To bathe his hands and comb his hair
To tell him what he is to wear
To prepare him that he may always be good
And each day do the things he should”

“Whose child is this?” I asked again
As the door opened and someone came in
“Mine”, said the teacher with the same tender smile
“Mine, to keep just for a little while
To teach him how to be gentle and kind
To train and direct his dear little mind
To help him live by every rule
And get the best he can from school”

“Whose child is this?” I ask once more
Just as the little one entered the door
“Ours” said the parent and the teacher as they smiled
And each took the hand of the little child
“Ours to love and train together
Ours this blessed task forever.”

Also, introducing a new space at Vintage Hardware:  LAST CHANCE & DIY.  This is an area in the lobby that will have clearance items as well as reasonably priced pieces that need a little imagination & TLC.
